The National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge (INSA), through its Department of Epidemiology, is responsible for one of the chapters in the book “Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries and Social Determinants of Health” (SDH), published by the Brazilian organization “National Council of Health Secretaries”. Written by an international team of experts in public health and health policies, the publication highlights the importance of the SDH as a set of factors that both positively and negatively influence the health of individuals, communities, and entire populations.
Inserted in the International Editorial Line of Support for Health Systems (LEIASS), this work aims to contribute to understanding and combating health inequalities within the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP). Over 14 chapters, the book, which is the result of a collaboration between the Council and the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of the Nova University of Lisbon (IHMT), covers a variety of topics, ranging from the analysis of sociodemographic and health differences among member countries to discussions on effective policy interventions to promote health equity.
