Objectives

The general objective of CT-Luso is to contribute to Ethical and Regulatory Capacity Building in Clinical Trials in Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP), which it aims to achieve through the pursuit of three main objectives:

1. (short-term) Strengthen each PALOP and harmonize across all the ethical-legal frameworks for the implementation of biomedical research, particularly Clinical Trials, as well as the functioning of the institutions responsible for monitoring the lifecycle of Clinical Trials. Additionally, providing training for professionals to manage the entire process, creating a pool of recruitment professionals who adhere to international best clinical practices, to achieve international validation and global recognition of the research conducted in these countries.

2. (medium-term) Create a community of practice, formed through the shared involvement of a wide variety of stakeholders, to promote scientific research in the country. This effort acknowledges the impact of research on fostering a scientific culture and socio-economic development, as well as the potential to integrate into increasingly extensive and credible international networks, thus multiplying the national potential.

3. (long-term) Build the necessary and solid foundations for the establishment of a Lusophone Clinical Trials cluster that allows for the submission of a research protocol for implementation in the five PALOPs. This would serve as a factor for attracting and securing international investment, streamlining processes, optimizing resources, and enhancing the scope and quality of the research to be conducted.
