The first official meeting of the CT Luso, held online on 13 September, marked the formal start of the project and the launch of its activities. The meeting was an opportunity to deepen the objectives and align the action plans for the next six months.

‘This is just the beginning of many opportunities we will have to collaborate,’ emphasised Helder Mota Filipe, president of the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Association and coordinator, at the opening of the formal meeting of the CT Luso project.

During the session, Maria do Céu Patrão Neves, responsible for leading the project and moderating the meeting, gave a virtual tour of the CT Luso website and introduced the leaders of the different Work Packages (WP). Each of them shared their expectations regarding the development of the initiatives.

The launch of CT Luso also involved aligning strategies for the first work plans. Carla Barbosa, from the Center for Biomedical Law, highlighted that in the first phase, the survey and analysis of the legislative reality of the various lusophones countries involved will be carried out, with the goal of contributing to a “robust, harmonized and internationally recognized legislative framework”.

Esperança Sevene, from Mozambique's National Bioethics Committee for Health, presented the training programme and the proposals for the eligibility criteria for trainees. Ricardo Santos, secretary general, outlined the guidelines for the digital platform, the quality and data management plan, the open science strategy and intellectual property rights.

This first official meeting followed the presentation session of the CT Luso project, held in a hybrid model on 4 April in Mozambique and online.
