The CT-Luso Project Coordination team met with the Guinea-Bissau Embassy in Lisbon on 15 May 2025 to present the project's progress and strengthen cooperation with the country.
The meeting was attended by the Guinea-Bissau Ambassador, Artur Silva, the Counsellor for Health, Mariama Pinto, and the Counsellor for Education and Student Support, Ana Semedo. The CT-Luso team included Maria do Céu Patrão Neves, Ricardo Santos and Catarina Sobrinho. During the meeting, Maria do Céu Patrão Neves pointed out that the existence of a clear legislative framework, a Medicines Regulatory Authority and a functioning Ethics Committee are facilitating elements for creating favourable conditions for carrying out clinical trials. He also said that initiatives such as CT-Luso can help create opportunities that encourage Guinean professionals to develop their careers in their home country.
The CT-Luso coordinator also said that a legislative survey had already been carried out for Guinea-Bissau with regard to the legislation in force and being processed in the area of clinical research, with a special focus on clinical trials. The Guinea-Bissau Embassy undertook to make the necessary representations to the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reiterated its full support for the project and its initiatives.
The visit to the Guinean embassy also emphasised the active participation of various Guinea-Bissau entities in the CT Luso project, namely the National Regulatory Authority for Pharmacies and Medicines (ARFAME), the National Institute of Public Health (INASA), the Bandim Health Project and the National Ethics Committee for Health Research (CNEPS).
