A meeting was held on 28 May via Zoom, which resulted in the creation of a Guinean commission to enhance the impact of the CT Luso project in Guinea-Bissau and respond to the challenges of ethics in scientific research in this country.

The commission was created with the aim of strengthening existing ethics commissions, consolidating the ethical skills of Guinean researchers and organising the replication, at national level, of the training courses carried out within the scope of the project, with the trainees themselves taking on the role of trainers.

The meeting was proposed by Mouhammed Djicó, permanent secretary of CNEPS, in collaboration with Cesário Martins, from the Bandim Health Project, and lawyer Miguel Pereira, a Guinean member of the CT-Luso team, in coordination with Maria do Céu Patrão Neves. The online session also brought together Guinean trainees from the training programme promoted by the project.

The initiative was widely praised by those present, who highlighted the quality of the training programme and expressed great motivation to actively contribute to the advancement of scientific ethics in the country.

Mouhammed Djicó said that the group is already preparing proposals to present at the International Lusophone Symposium: ‘Lusophone regulatory and procedural harmonisation for clinical trials: is it possible?’, to be held on 25 September 2025. The CT-Luso coordination welcomed the creation of the commission, reaffirming its full support for the initiatives underway in Guinea-Bissau.
