Cape Verdean authorities reinforce commitment to the CT Luso project
The President of the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society (OF) and coordinator of CT Luso, Helder Mota Filipe, and the Secretary-General of the OF, Ricardo Santos, were in Cape Verde on 26 and 27 May for a series of meetings with local health authorities. One of the topics highlighted was the importance of the CT Luso project for the development of research and clinical trials in the country.
During a hearing, Cape Verde's Minister of Health, Jorge Figueiredo, expressed interest in ensuring that, from a regulatory point of view, all conditions are in place for the safe and ethical development of clinical research, recognising the structuring role of the CT Luso project in this process.
Also, in a meeting with the President of the Independent Health Regulatory Authority (ERIS), Eduardo Tavares, the authority's active involvement in the project and its commitment to strengthening the regulation of clinical research in Cape Verde, in line with international quality and ethical standards, was reiterated.
At both meetings, the importance of approving legislation on biomedical research was emphasised as a fundamental element for the consolidation of a robust legal framework. The CT Luso project has played a decisive role in this process, providing technical support for the creation of institutional conditions that guarantee the protection of participants and the scientific integrity of studies.
