The CT Luso coordination team met on July 2nd, via videoconference, for its 11th meeting. A key topic was the conclusion of the training cycle, which involved 251 trainees from various Portuguese-speaking countries and delivered results well above expectations: the average score among trainees was 80%. Overall feedback on the training was mostly rated as “very good” or “excellent.”
The meeting also addressed the preparation of a new cycle of webinars, scheduled to begin in October. One session per month is planned, always on Thursdays, with topics suggested by the trainees themselves—particularly those that were not covered or explored in depth during the training cycle.
On September 25th, the Lusophone International Symposium will take place under the title “Regulatory and procedural harmonization for Clinical Trials in Lusophone countries: is it possible?” The event will be held at the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society (Ordem dos Farmacêuticos), in Lisbon, with exclusive streaming access for Lusophone countries. The symposium will be held under the High Patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic. In the meantime, and following the recent retirement of CT Luso coordinator Maria do Céu Patrão Neves, videos are being recorded with the project’s partners to strengthen its communication efforts.
During the meeting, Mozambican scientist Esperança Sevene, CT Luso's scientific coordinator, noted that the project was presented at the EDCTP Forum as a reference in the regulatory field.
Following this, Helder Mota Filipe, President of the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society, announced that CT Luso would be presented to participants of CAPACITY 2023, a project that brings together institutional partners from Tanzania and Uganda. Its main goal is to develop regulatory capacity for clinical trials involving gene therapy products and to enhance pharmacovigilance in such trials in East Africa.
The next CT Luso meeting is scheduled for September, continuing its mission of training, cooperation, and strengthening the Lusophone network in the field of clinical trials.
