At the 12th coordination meeting of the CT Luso project, held on September 10 via Zoom, the focus was on the upcoming Lusophone International Symposium, taking place on September 25, and the results of the Training Program, which concluded in June this year.

CT Luso is preparing to host both a Workshop and the Lusophone International Symposium – “Regulatory and Procedural Harmonization for Clinical Trials in the Lusophone World: Is it possible?” – on September 24 and 25 respectively, at the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society in Lisbon.

The symposium, held under the High Patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic, will bring together ambassadors and experts from Portuguese-speaking African countries to share scientific and regulatory insights on clinical trials within the Lusophone community. This was one of the main topics discussed at the 12th meeting, moderated by Maria do Céu Patrão Neves.

Another highlight was the review of the CT Luso Training Cycle, which ran from December 2024 to June 2025. The program included participants from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and a smaller group from Portugal. In total, 234 participants successfully completed the training, with 90% achieving grades of “Good” or higher.

“We had a strong representation of participants holding master’s and doctoral degrees. Health-related fields were predominant, but we also received applications from other areas, such as law, which underscores the multidisciplinary nature of the project,” noted CT Luso project consultant Maria Alexandra Ribeiro.

The project coordinator, Helder Mota Filipe, also addressed the 12th meeting, highlighting the poster presented at the 83rd FIP World Congress (International Pharmaceutical Federation), held in Copenhagen from August 31 to September 3.

With the International Symposium approaching and a training program recognized for its impact, CT Luso is strengthening its role as a platform for scientific and regulatory cooperation across the Lusophone world.
