On 4 December, CT-Luso held its fourth monthly project coordination meeting via the Zoom platform, with the participation of representatives from Portugal and the five partner countries in Lusophone Africa.

At the opening, project coordinator Maria do Céu Patrão Neves took stock of Action Plan 4 (WP4), revealing that the training programme received 354 applications, of which 331 were considered eligible. There was a balanced proportion of applications among the Portuguese-speaking partner countries, although Mozambique, which is responsible for the scientific coordination of the project, stood out with a high number of applicants. Maria do Céu Patrão Neves also emphasised the excellence of the trainees, many of whom have academic and scientific backgrounds of great merit.

As part of Action Plan 3 (WP3), Ana Elisabete Ferreira, from the Biomedical Law Centre, presented updates on the legislative survey and the ethical and legal criteria for clinical trials in the partner countries. The meeting also covered topics such as the balance of the first quarter of the project and the progress of the deliverables underway, which are scheduled for completion in February 2025. Of particular note in this context were the Quality Management Plan, which aims to ensure excellence at all stages of the project, and the Open Science Strategy, which reinforces the commitment to transparency and knowledge sharing. Also discussed was the approach to Intellectual Property Rights, a key element of the project.
