The 8th monthly coordination meeting of the CT-Luso Project took place online on April 2, 2025, with the aim of assessing the progress of ongoing initiatives and providing updates on the schedule of planned activities for the year.
At the start of the session, Professor Lúcia Domingues from Nova Medical School gave an overview of Training Module 4—the last one under the responsibility of this university—focused on public health and infectious diseases. She highlighted the "high level of student participation," which the faculty considered "surprising and rewarding."
Following this, the project coordinator, Maria do Céu Patrão Neves, announced that a public session is being organized for September 25, to showcase the work carried out on the legislative landscape concerning research, the definition of Medicines Authorities, and ethics committees in Portuguese-speaking African countries. A preliminary meeting with legal experts, representatives from medicines authorities, and ethics committees of the participating African countries is scheduled for the day before.
The public event will also feature a roundtable with ambassadors from the partner countries. The target audience includes the Portuguese public and the African Portuguese-speaking community, bringing together academics, scientists, lawmakers, and political representatives.
In the context of the CT-Luso project, Maria do Céu Patrão Neves also emphasized that the training program will conclude in June, at which point both trainees and trainers will be evaluated—the latter through a student feedback survey. In July, a webinar series will be launched, with topics chosen by the participants according to their needs, in order to complement the training already completed. The main goal is for trainees to become trainers in their own countries, forming teaching groups within their institutions.
Another highlight of the meeting was the presentation by project manager Catarina Sobrinho on CT-Luso’s participation in the 5th European Conference on Pharmaceutics. The project was featured at the event with a poster presentation at the Alfândega Congress Center in Porto on March 25, 2025.
